Chucktopia
Charles Barilleaux's Home Page

Welcom to Chucktopia, my home page on the internet. In one form or another, I've had an island on the Internet (with a turtle and a palm tree) since 1995.1 This is just the latest iteration.

While home pages may seem a bit quaint in the 2020s, social media, and the like, I do think it's handy to have a landing page. In particular, since I send mail from my own domain, it does help ensure folks know the address is legitimate, and not some spammer.

Or at least that's the idea.

About Charles

Originally from Lake Charles, Louisiana, I've been a proud resident of Cincinnati, Ohio, for about thirty years. I live in Cincinnati's oldest neighborhood with my family and three cats. I love my city and my neighborhood.

Professionally, I specially in Information Technology infrastructure (servers, networks, etc.) and security, leading teams and projects. My LinkedIn page provides fairly current details.

But that's not what this page is about.

I've often described my interests as food, cats, pens and bike (often listed as #foodcatspensbikes). This is actually quite accurate (though, perhaps narrowed a bit for brevity). I'm a foodie--I love trying new food, and I like cooking. My specialty is baking bread, making about a loaf a week for my family--we rarely have store-bought bread in the house. I especially like Latin food, and it's what we frequently look for on vacation.

As I mentioned, I have three cats, and enjoy their antics. I also appreciate the other thirty-six members of the felidae family, and advocate for them.

I describe myself as an "Office Supply Geek," enjoying pens, stationary, washi tape, and other things you're likely to find on a desk in the 1950s. I collect fountain pens, including some that are more than a century old. This interest has spilled over into trying to understand how people use these tools, and, more generally, the processes people use to think and get stuff done ("productivity systems," for instance). I find that the analog tools help me think clearly and retain information better. Often, something that winds up on the computer will have a first, second, or third draft on paper.

Perhaps my biggest passion is cycling. I bike commute, ride on road and off-road, and compete (mostly in cyclocross events). If I'm not on a ride, I'm getting ready to ride (even if it's a day away). My wife has noted that I tend to get a bit...strange, so I tend to ride a lot (proof!). I am an advocate for making the streets for everyone.

What Can You Find on at MrGuilt.com

At present, during this rebuilding phase, not a whole heck of a lot. So far:
1This is based on setting up a page with One.Net. The earliest example I can find on the WaybackMachine is from February 18, 1999
